The media literature today is supersaturated with pessimism. It oozes from the pores of the media sphere, coating everyone with its overbearing encumbrance. Give it up to Ken Fisher for being a reliable staple in seeing what others don't see.
He basically shoves our head in the ooze, in an attempt to teach us to open our eyes to the obvious, in the third paragraph of his article. One of the first questions we should ask ourselves when we read something like the headline he refers to ("October Retail Sales Down-Worst Ever Recorded"), is "Oh yeah? Well how long have these findings been recorded?" Another couple of useful observations Mr. Fisher points out, which are in line with what Kendall and myself have been speaking of for some time now, are both the earnings of companies during the third quarter, and the dividend yield of the S&P 500. Pay attention to those facts and use them for comparisons of the alternatives when you are making your current investment decisions.
