Don't Forgo the Cutting Glove for Rules of Thumb

This article by Robert Powell of Marketwatch, titled “Five common investing mistakes to avoid” is short and sweet.  Advice lists are a dime a dozen, but these five isolated investment mistakes are still worthy of note.  Why then have I included this article in the Useless Buzz section then?  I just believe you will get the most out of these five mistakes if you simply read the mistakes, and skipped the logic and reasoning behind them.  Keep these “rules of thumb” in mind when investing, but don’t use them as overriding reasons to buy, sell, swap, etc…  and just make sure your own personal logic assigned to the rules is based on simple common sense.

P.S.  You might want to frame that little quoted section in rule number 3, and hang it on the wall near your “trading desk”.  You very rarely see statements like that anywhere in print.  It really gives the individual investor something to think about.
